What Is The Difference Between Curtain Rails and Curtain Poles?

Often too little thought is put into curtain tracks or poles. We spend hours finding the perfect pair of curtains, but hang them on the existing pole (which may not be suitable) or purchase a new curtain track or pole based purely on it being the right length. In fact, there are many different types of curtain tracks and poles, ranging from these basic poles, to corded curtain tracks and corded curtain poles, and even electronic opening and closing systems for ease of use and security. Each type of curtain track or pole affects the way which your curtains hang; so it is important to choose your pole just as carefully as you would the curtains.

Uncorded and Corded Curtain Poles

Curtain poles were traditionally wooden or metal poles with rings to hang the curtains from, fixed to the wall with a horizontal or vertical bracket. Nowadays they are much more effective and interesting; they can be accessorised with finials, misdials and holdbacks in a range of designs, and alternative C shape rings to allow curtains to move past the bracket with an ease (a function impossible with O rings).

Uncorded and Corded Curtain Tracks

Curtain tracks (sometimes called curtain rails) differ from traditional curtain poles as they feature a track system with gliders. These work to reduce the amount of friction when opening or closing the curtains, allowing them to be opened and closed more easily and adding the option of choosing corded curtain rails. Both uncorded and corded curtain rails are available in a range of colours and can be made-to-measure to fit bay windows.
Corded curtain tracks (or corded curtain rails) are opened and closed with a string pulley at the side of the track. This makes corded curtain tracks an easy way to protect fragile or lightly coloured curtains from contact, and makes opening and closing curtains easier, ideal for heavy or tall curtains or frail or disabled residents.
If you choose to purchase corded curtain tracks to benefit from their neat, minimalist look and their ease of use, shop for brands such as Silent Gliss. The Silent Gliss 3000 and Silent Gliss 3900, in particular, are popular corded curtain rails due to their high quality design. They allow for extremely smooth running of curtains and the cords do not fall out. The Silent Gliss 3900 is suitable for medium to heavy weight curtains, and the Silent Gliss 3000 is suitable for lined curtains or short interlined curtains.
Another alternative is electronically-operated uncorded or corded curtain rails. Electronically-operated tracks add extra ease of use and security due to their light or time sensors.

Tracks Direct are curtain rail, pole and track specialists who offer a range of customisable options, including bending their rails to fit curved or bay windows. Browse their range of high quality products, with brands such as Silent Gliss, and order online or request a free quotation.

Attractive and appealing conservatory for your home

Building your own conservatory is an excellent way to expand your living space and be a step closer to nature. If you are looking for the ultimate way to find peace and relaxation in your house, these conservatories, popularly also known as sunrooms and orangeries, are your best bet. A visually stimulating living environment can do wonders to your mental as well as physical health. Not only are these spaces extremely functional, but they are also extremely cost efficient.

To build a conservatory, you need to first decide whether you want to build it yourself or get professionals to do it for you. Often, you can find the option of choosing a conservatory design and having it delivered to you. After that, it is up to you to install it. This is generally preferred primarily because you can get a professional look without having to worry about the steep price tag associated with it. You can also avail of an option wherein you do not have to order the entire structure. If you already have a certain part built or installed, you can just order for the complementary parts. This can save you unnecessary expenditures.

Though DIY conservatories seem fairly easy and tempting, a lot of research and work goes into it. Foundations, dwarf walls, and bases need to be constructed, which determine the strength and durability of your sunroom or conservatory. Though a self build conservatory is very cost effective, you have to ensure that you get the proper heating/cooling, ventilation, and flooring installed. The versatility and the convenience that readymade conservatories and sunrooms offer are unmatchable. They help you to realise the best that you can afford given the limitations of space and budget.

Popular Victorian, Georgian, and Edwardian designs are available in a variety of sizes that can easily be adapted to any space. The wide selection enables you to choose the look and design of the conservatory that best reflect your personal taste and style. The satisfaction and experience of seeing the fruit of your labour come alive is totally worth it. Also, the importance of flooring, lighting, and blinds cannot be stressed enough; all of them come together to make your living space a masterpiece! You can easily get a conservatory quote to ease into the process and then take it up from there. If you are imaginative and creative, the sky is the limit!

This article is written in association with Conservatory Quote Online. They allow you to get a great deal on the price of your conservatory or sunroom and offer a wide variety of styles, shapes, and features. Take a look at their website for information, tips, and advice on all aspects of conservatories.

Why make a PPI claim?

Up until 2011, many lenders, including high street banks and credit companies, mis-sold a staggering £5 billion a year worth of payment protection insurance. The insurance, intended to protect payments in the event of accident or unemployment, was mis-sold when borrowers didnt want or need it, or when they were given the impression that it was not compulsory. When the mis-selling of PPI was eventually ruled as illegal, lenders were told to repay those who had taken out the policies.

Financial Reimbursement

There are many advantages of making a payment protection claim, the main obviously being the financial reimbursement. Many people who make successful PPI claims are refunded thousands of pounds each, with some being given cheques for as much as £90,000. The amount which each person is refunded depends upon the size of the loan which the PPI protected, the time period which the loan was taken out for and a number of other factors. The best way to find out how much your claim is likely to be worth is through receiving an assessment from a PPI claims management company, with most people finding that they are entitled to an unexpectedly substantial figure.

Entitlement

With lenders unfairly misleading customers for decades this is your chance to take back what was taken from you. Banks have been ordered to repay millions of pounds to their customers, most of which remains as yet unpaid. You have the right to take back what you are entitled to and show your lender that you are not going to let them keep your money. Banks and other PPI sellers are not allowed to treat you any differently for making a payment protection claim, so nothing should hold you back from taking back the money you are entitled to.

Hassle-free

Claims management companies understand that the majority of those entitled to make PPI claims are unsure of their knowledge or ability to contact their lenders directly. The PPI refund process is complicated and assessing whether or not you are entitled to make a claim is even more difficult.
By hiring a PPI claims management company you can simply sit back and wait for your cheque to arrive. They often offer a free assessment service which allows you to find out whether or not you have been mis-sold PPI from the comfort of your own home; choose a company which offers a simple postal or visiting service. If you are busy or do not have an in-depth knowledge of the rules around PPI it makes sense to speak to experts who will handle your claim quickly, efficiently and on a no-win, no-fee basis, for virtually no effort on your part.

Contact reliable claims management company ABC Incorporation for a free assessment of your PPI claim. They work on a no win, no fee basis and have a high success rate, earning mis-sold PPI victims millions of pounds.

Show off fabulous feet with luxurious toe rings

As the weather begins to get warmer it’s time to start digging out those sandals and flip flops. While a pedicure enables our feet to start looking their best again, why not finish off a look in real style and with extra sparkle. Toe rings are back in fashion, and this time they’re luxurious.Sterling silver or 9kt gold or white gold toe rings are seriously on trend at the moment, and good jewellers have designed some key pieces which are set to be huge. A handmade ring, made to be worn on the second toe of either foot, is THE way to accessorise this Spring/Summer. Quality toe rings can be worn in water without any hint of discolouration, so they are fast becoming a beach and poolside favourite.

But toe rings are versatile and subtle enough to be worn for any occasion this spring and summer. They can provide the finishing touch to a formal dress and strappy heels at a restaurant, denim shorts and flip flops in the park, or a simple bikini and bare feet on holiday. Toe rings really are a great investment piece, which is why it makes sense to choose quality rather than throwaway pieces.

Silver and 9kt gold ensures that your jewellery will remain stunning, even after years of wear. Quality toe rings won’t discolour in water, and won’t discolour your skin either. Silver and gold are also the best materials if you have sensitive skin which doesn’t react well with cheap jewellery. Popular designs feature gem stones which add an eye-catching glint of sparkle in the sunlight. Choose your favourite stone, your favourite colour or even your birth stone.

Why not try a girly look with purple amethyst or pink sapphires, match the pool with blue topaz or complement ruby toe nail polish with a deep red garnet? Or, if you are looking for a special gift or a really luxurious keepsake, go for classic diamond. Diamond toe rings are the epitome of class, sophistication and style. If you crave diamonds but find them to be out of your price range, opt for a design with white topaz. White topaz toe rings are more affordable while still offering the subtle clear sparkle of diamond.

The key designs of toe rings to buy this year feature gem stone hearts or dolphins. If you are unsure of your size it makes sense to choose toe rings which come in small, medium or large sizes, but are slightly adjustable. This way you’ll only need to make an approximate estimate of your size, while still ensuring a comfortable fit. Open ring designs achieve this flexibility with sizing.

Body Matters Gold sell a range of handmade fine jewellery including toe rings in silver and 9kt gold and white gold. Browse their unique designs which feature gem stones such as garnets, amethysts and diamonds for a truly luxurious touch for your feet.

For Iconic and stylish furniture, choose the Eames lounge chair

The Eames lounge chair is a world famous piece of furniture. Designed by husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames in 1956, this stylish, iconic chair was created with high quality leather for ultimate comfort and a sleek finish. Wooden frames with ash or beach veneer, adds to the luxurious, stylish design that is perfect for all office and lounge areas.

Shortly after the chair was designed, Charles and Ray created the matching ottoman for director Billy Wilder, who used the furniture piece in the film Some Like It Hot. More recently, the Eames set has appeared on the hit TV series Gossip Girl. The creation is timeless and can blend in with any home and office styles or decor. The chair set is often seen paired with a sleek, chrome or silver floor lamp or a matching desk and book case, creating a stylish and classy work area.

The worldwide popularity of the Eames lounge chair has led the design to feature in top art museums such as the MOMA in New York and the Art Institute of Chicago. Its fair to say there arent many lounge chairs that have a high profile like the Eames chair. The artistic creation has been the subject of many documentaries and books since its debut in the late 50s and there are now many reproductions offering several different colours and styles of the design.

If you are considering purchasing an Eames lounge chair reproduction, it is essential that you purchase the piece from a well established, reliable supplier. There are many reproductions, particularly over the internet that appear to look like the original high quality design, however when people have received the chair it has arrived looking worn and cheap. Although it may be tempting to go for the cheaper option, the Eames chair should be created with the highest quality leather and thick cushion made from foam or down feathers, therefore it should not be a cheap furniture piece.

Ideally you should go and see the chair in the flesh before you make your purchase. However, if you are selecting your chair from a well established online supplier, they should be able to send you a wide range of photographs taken at different angles, enabling you to determine the quality of the design.

Once you have purchased your chair you should take some time to look after your new furniture piece. That way it will last for years on end and can even be passed down generations in your family. Simple cleaning such as dusting the leather seat and arms with a soft, dry cloth and applying a pre-softened paste wax to the legs of your chair will remove any marks and keep it looking brand new.

Add style and comfort to your home with the Eames lounge chair.

Icon Inspired offer a selection of high quality Eames inspired furniture pieces, including office, dining and lounge chairs in a range of different colours and styles. Visit their website today to view their fantastic range.

Save yourself money with DIY conservatories

With summer coming up, we start to envy those who have conservatories. Not only do they provide some much needed additional space, but they also offer the luxury of experiencing the natural world from indoors. The majority of people decide against installing a conservatory onto their homes, blaming this on the money aspect. But this should not be used as an excuse to decide against installing a conservatory. The majority of your neighbours who have white uPVC or hardwood conservatories will have bought and had them installed by a single company.

But the majority of money paid towards this will have covered the labour costs alone. Fitting fees can often amount to thousands of pounds of the overall cost that you would pay for a brand new conservatory. It is for this reason that DIY conservatories are becoming increasingly popular in today’s world. A DIY conservatory is self-explanatory; you build your own conservatory. It allows you the opportunity to choose what design you want, as well as adding your own personal touch to its features.

Once you have made your purchase and the supplies have been delivered to your home, you then build the conservatory yourself. By purchasing supply only conservatories, you can still experience all the normal benefits but with an additional enjoyment of the fact that you have saved yourself money. If you are a particularly handy person and enjoy taking pride in your work, this is the perfect option for you. You will have reassurance in knowing that each part is being built exactly as you want, whilst having the luxury of creating your conservatory in your own time. Once you have finished, step back to admire the structure and take pride in your own handiwork. Maybe you’re not the handiest of people though, but you still want to reap the benefits; in this case, you can employ someone to help.

You may have a friend or a member of the family who would be only too happy to help. Or you could employ a professional company to help. Whilst this would cost you a little more, you would still be saving money than if you had requested that the supplying company install the conservatory for you. By investing in a conservatory, you can have the chance to view nature from inside your home whilst experiencing the benefits of additional space. But by purchasing a DIY conservatory, you will save money and have the chance to ensure that you conservatory is tailored to your exact requirements.

Conservatory Quote Online are an online service that provide their customers with competitive quotes for all kinds of conservatories. Their services include offering help and advice to help you choose the right type of conservatory to suit your home. Different types of land surveying

There are many types of land surveying, employed for different purposes and using different techniques.

An archaeological field survey is an assessment of archaeological sites or finds, where their locations are plotted in a landscape. Almost every method of land surveying can be employed in an archeological survey, including GPS, aerial photography and historic literary resources. Laser surveying can produce 3D computerised models of artifacts.

An ‘as-built’ survey is carried out during a construction project, or after one has been completed. It will evaluate the location of the constructed elements, and is often drawn in red or redline on an overlay.

A bathymetric survey will map the bed of an ocean, lake, river or other body of water. A bathymetric survey will measure the depth of the land below sea level, and is the direct opposite of a hypsometry survey, which will measure the height of land above sea level. They depth measurement is likely to be carried out with the use of sound measuring such as sonar, and global positioning (GPS) will measure this position on the earth’s surface.

Boundary surveys are likely to be carried out during the sale or purchase of land or when land is subdivided. Boundary surveys will ascertain the corners of a ‘parcel’, and may involve the setting or restoration of monuments or markers to mark these boundaries.

Deformation surveys are used to check for and measure change. They use geodetic measuring devices, geotechnical measuring devices and other techniques such as radar measuring devices. This type of survey can be used to measure dams, roads, mining sites, volcanoes, settlements and earthquake-prone areas, and how they have changed over time. Laser scanning is one method which can achieve an accurate measurement of deformation.

Engineering surveys may use topographic, layout or as-built surveys, but feature more detailed data. One way to gather this detailed data is by employing accurate techniques such as GPS or laser surveying.

A foundation survey is carried out to collect the positional data of construction foundations. These surveys are used to assess whether foundations have been laid at the planned depth and location.

Geological surveys are general recordings of the geologically significant features of an area. This is a general term, and can describe other types of survey.

A building survey or ‘as-built’ survey are types of measured survey, which is a general term to describe the survey done to produce plans of a building. This can include almost any surveying method of data collection, occasionally including laser surveying.

Mortgage surveys are also called physical surveys. They will determine land boundaries, such as in a boundary survey, and also building location. Sometimes one of these surveys may be required before a lender will approve a mortgage loan.

Structural surveys are a common step in the house-buying process. Structural surveys inspect the structural stability of a building or structure, and will make note of their condition and what work may need doing.

A topographic survey marks the elevation of land, and presents these points as contour lines. These can be carried out in a number of ways including triangulation and laser surveying techniques, and may or may not include surface features such as trees and plants.

SUMO Services provide land surveying nationwide, with a comprehensive list of services. SUMO can provide measured building surveying, plan collation, utility detection and mapping and topographic surveying.

Buying your first yacht

Buying a yacht is an extremely rewarding experience. It conjures up images of serenely sailing into the sunshine, free to explore exciting new places from a yacht with all the mod cons. Owning a private yacht might seem unachieveable, but it can be much a more realistic possibility than you first imagine.

Buying a brand new luxury yacht is obviously unaffordable for most people. Not only do you need to pay for the boat, but sailing training, insurance, fuel, crew and maintenance are going to add up. A smaller sailing yacht, however, may be more affordable than you first thought. Browsing broker’s websites will give you a rough idea of how much a yacht is going to cost - some are just £16,000. This is a fraction of the price of regularly hiring a sailing yacht or paying for hotels or expensive travel on holidays over the years. And the experience of freedom to explore the seas at your own pace and from the comfort of your own surroundings is much more rewarding.

If you are interested in buying a yacht you will need to speak to a broker who will find you a yacht for sale. The advantage of owning a sailing yacht to a motor yacht is that sailing yachts rely on a cheaper and more relaxed form of fuel: the wind. Sailing also allows you to put your true captaining skills to the test.

The main types of yachts are day sailing, weekender, cruising and luxury yachts. Day sailing yachts are sometimes called dinghies, and often do not have a cabin as they are intended for short journeys which do not extend overnight. Weekender yachts are under 9.5 metres in length, usually have a cabin or two and are intended for use for no more than 3 days. Cruising yachts range between 7 and 14 metres long, with more interior space and on-board comfort enabling them to be used for longer journeys. Luxury yachts tend to be over 25metres long, with even more space and luxurious finishings.

The process of finding a yacht for sale begins with the broker. Try to understand your needs and budget before speaking to a yacht broker. The size of the yacht often depends on your budget, but remember you may be able to charter your yacht out to earn some money to cover costs while you are not using it.

A broker will help you to find and choose a yacht based on your requirements. They will share their expertise into the different types and brands available, answering any questions which you may have. Will you be spending weeks sailing the world, or sailing the coast of Britain on the odd day at the weekend? Find out where you will keep your yacht too. Dockage can be difficult to find in some areas, so talk to the people at marinas about available space before you buy your yacht. If you will be chartering your yacht think about when you will want to use it. Crowds hit the Caribbean each winter and the Mediterranean each summer so this is when you will be able to make most money chartering your yacht out.

Ask if you can try before you buy. You will only truly be able to know if you like the feel of a boat by spending time on board, and your yacht broker will explain whether this is a possibility.

Yachtseek are global brokers of yachts and boats. They have an online resource of dinghies, sailing yachts, luxury yachts, power yachts and racing yachts around the world.
